Abstract
-
William F. Harn was an Oklahoma pioneer who made great contributions to the state of Oklahoma. Today, one of his legacies can be seen in the Harn Homestead and 1889ers Museum. It strives to preserve the legacy of Harn and educate the public about the territorial period in Oklahoma's history. The Harn Homestead provides excellent hands-on educational programs for scheduled children's groups, but very little interpretation is done for nonscheduled visitors. Digital technologies can be implemented into museums in order to augment the educational mission. This thesis asserts that the Harn Homestead can benefit from the addition of QR Codes in the museum. The codes allow for a simple digital technology to give deeper interpretation to the buildings onsite. With QR Codes, visitors have the opportunity to be guided in activities that inspire imagination, conversation, and a deeper understanding of the history of territorial Oklahoma.
