The Tsa-La-Gi Library in downtown Tahlequah may be owned and operated by the Cherokee Nation but it is still a public library, according to Library Coordinator Sandy Long. The library had been located at the W.W. Keeler Tribal Complex of the Cherokee Nation south of Tahlequah but has been moved to the old Cherokee National Prison which is a state historical site. The prison was build when Oklahoma was still Indian Territory Once Oklahoma became a state the prison became the county jail. When the county abandoned the building to move to its new location the structure was given back to the Cherokees. The building had started to become the victim of time and age when it was decided to locate the Tsa-La-Gi Library at the site. If historical information is needed there is also a section on the Cherokee language and various sources for historical research on Indians with an emphasis on Cherokee Indians, Long said.
