Land Memory
The (her)stories of Oklahoma Afro-Indigenous Freedwomen rise up from the land of 39 sovereign nations. Their (her)stories breathe into every particle of the wind, including in the sovereign nations they are from. Their footprints are embedded in the soil as a witness to their courage and perseverance. The Afro-Indigenous Freedwomen's legacies of survival and resistance through colonialism and enslavement live on. Each Afro-Indigenous Freedwoman's location is recognized on the map below as a symbol of their valuable lives. May we bear witness to Oklahoma Afro-Indigenous Freedwomen's lives. May the Land be healed.
